This is a tool that clearly shows how the various components within a system are connected and what role each plays in the overall system. For example, when modeling a car, each part, such as the engine, transmission, and wheels, can be expressed as Part Properties to explain the interaction and function within the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c1c4292ba88f6d75f24dec72144acdf4\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Understanding_whole-part_relationships\"><\/span><strong>Understanding whole-part relationships<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Whole-part relationships are expressed in SysML using Part Properties. This relationship is an important concept in understanding and designing complex systems, showing how the parts fit together to form the overall system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Example of automotive system<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s take the example of modeling a car. A car is a block as a whole, and the engine and wheels are expressed as parts of this car. Here, a car is a larger functional system made up of engines and wheels. This structure is often seen in BOM (Bill of Materials), making the contribution and function of each part clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Physical assembly relationship<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In physical systems, the whole-part relationship implies an assembly relationship. In other words, the entire block is made up of several partial blocks combined. This clarifies the structural position and role of each part and forms essential relationships when integrating the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Whole-part relationships in software<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Whole-part relationships are also important in software systems. For software objects, the life cycle of the entire object directly affects its sub-objects. For example, when an entire object is deleted, all subobjects associated with it are also deleted. This is managed through aggregation and composition relationships in object-oriented programming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-88cefdb99569847c88b8b7fc6006d2a5\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Part_Properties_and_Instantiation\"><\/span><strong>Part Properties and Instantiation<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Similarities to object-oriented programming<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In object-oriented programming, classes serve as templates for creating objects of a specific type. Fields of this class sometimes consist of instances of other classes. Similarly, in SysML, the Part Properties of a particular block represent an instance of its Type. For example, if you have a class &#8216;Car&#8217;, this class could contain instances of the classes &#8216;Engine&#8217; and &#8216;Wheel&#8217; as fields. This applies equally to SysML, where the &#8216;Car&#8217; block includes instances of &#8216;Engine&#8217; and &#8216;Wheel&#8217; as Part Properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The importance of instantiation<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When a block is instantiated, its Part Properties must also be instantiated. This process depicts the specific function and structure of the system, with each Part Property representing an actual implementation of that type. For example, when a &#8216;Car&#8217; block is instantiated, the included &#8216;Engine&#8217; and &#8216;Wheel&#8217; are also instantiated respectively, acting as components of the overall &#8216;Car&#8217; instance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Differences from composite block instances<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Compound block instances with Part Properties are different from single block instances. A composite block instance internally contains other instances, each of which contributes to the overall functionality of the composite block. On the other hand, regular block instances have independent functionality and do not function within the context of other instances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-879414524ecadfa2910b3da02137a379\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Expression_method_of_Part_Properties\"><\/span><strong>Expression method of Part Properties<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Default format<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Part Properties are expressed in the Part Compartment of a block in the following format:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&lt;part name&gt; : &lt;type&gt; [&lt;multiplicity&gt;]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Part Name : <\/strong>This is a freely configurable name depending on the modeling object and is used to identify the Part Property.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Type :<\/strong> Type refers to another block defined within the system and specifies the type of element that the Part Property represents.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Description of Multiplicity<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Definition : <\/strong>Multiplicity refers to the number of instances the Part Property can contain. It can be expressed as a single integer or a range of integers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lower bound : <\/strong>Represents the minimum number of instances, expressed as 0 or a positive integer. A value of 0 means that instances of that part are optional.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Upper bound : <\/strong>Represents the maximum number of instances, expressed as 1, a majority (&#8216;*<em>&#8216;), or a positive integer equal to or greater than the lower bound. &#8216;<\/em>*&#8217; means allow infinite instances. Let&#8217;s say the Car block contains four Wheel Part Properties. The {unique} setting is a UML notation that specifies that each of these wheels is a distinct entity. This setting is used when each instance must be unique and duplication is not allowed. In this relationship, &#8216;whole&#8217; is located at the end of the composite and &#8216;part&#8217; is located at the end of the part. This connection is important when managing the complexity of the system and clarifying the role of each part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Block relationship<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In this connection, the block located at the partial end is considered the Part Property of the block located at the composite end. This means that partial blocks act as components of the whole block, and have a significant impact on the function and structure of the whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Visual representation and interpretation<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>notation :<\/strong> Composite associations are shown as solid lines with black diamonds at the composite ends. This diamond represents the &#8216;whole&#8217; and may or may not have arrowheads at the ends of the parts. An arrowhead indicates that the connection is a one-way reference; an absence of an arrowhead indicates a two-way reference.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Role Name :<\/strong> The role name given at each end indicates the specific role in the block. For example, in a car model, &#8216;engine&#8217; might be the role name of the engine block.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Multiplicity at the composite end<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Upper limit : <\/strong>The upper limit of multiplicity at the end of a complex is usually 1, meaning that a part can belong to only one complex structure at the same time. This is important to maintain system integrity and clarify the location and role of each part within a complex system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lower bound : <\/strong>If the lower bound is 0, the part can be removed from the composite structure as needed; if the lower bound is 1, the portion must always be associated with the composite structure. This is used to determine the essentiality of the part.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Multiplicity at the ends of parts<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The multiplicity at the partial ends can be adjusted according to the requirements of the composite ends. This allows multiple parts to exist within a composite structure, increasing the scalability and flexibility of the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application in embedded systems<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Especially in complex systems such as embedded systems, in most cases the multiplicity of the complex ends is set to 1.
